Early 19th Century Victorian Style Living Room
The main inspiration for this project was from the PC game that I played so many times as a kid, I Spy Spooky Mansion Deluxe. Released in 2004, you would solve riddles by finding hidden objects in each scene, set in a mansion that looks like it was built in the early 19th century. I have always loved the old house feeling this game gave me, and I love all the work that went into all the tiny details of this game. The living room setting of this game felt the most ‘alive’ to me, so I decided to base my work on that. The two items, the phonograph and the lanterns, were inspired by another one of my favorite games with a spooky atmosphere, Inscryption, which came out in October of 2021.

I used Autodesk’s Maya 2024 for the 3D stuff, and Adobe Photoshop for most of the textures. A few of my own art pieces and pictures are also present in the scene as textures. I am currently a student learning 3D modeling, and this was my first big project. Although it was tedious at times, I enjoyed creating this piece, and I hope to make bigger, better, and more complex creations in the future.
Bonus: Does the painting above the fireplace mantle seem familiar to you? It’s referencing a bad drawing of a famous YouTuber. I thought it would be fun to include that in. Leave a comment if you know what I’m referencing here.
